Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 9, 2026
This policy explains how ALYA ("we," "us") handles information when you use our website and language-learning app (the "Services").
Information We Collect
- Account: your user ID and, when provided by Apple or Google sign-in, your name, email address, and profile image.
- Learning profile: language level, interests, goals, challenges, daily target, preferred topics, reminder schedule, and onboarding status.
- Learning activity: videos viewed, watch time and completion, saved words and reviews, responses, streaks, stars, achievements, and companion progress.
- App operations: screen and feature events, subscription events, playback or app errors, device platform, and push-notification token if you enable notifications.
- Purchases: product, entitlement, renewal, and trial status supplied by Apple and RevenueCat. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
- Support: information you include when contacting us.
ALYA does not request your precise location, contacts, photos, or camera. Pronunciation is text-to-speech; we do not record your microphone.
How We Use Information
We use information to provide and personalize lessons, track progress, save vocabulary, schedule notifications, manage subscriptions, support users, maintain security, diagnose failures, measure product performance, and improve the Services.
Services We Use
We disclose only the information needed to operate ALYA:
- Clerk, Apple, and Google for sign-in and account identity.
- Convex for application hosting, database storage, and server functions. Sprout analytics runs with our Convex backend to record app events and errors.
- Apple App Store and RevenueCat for purchases, entitlements, trials, and subscription management.
- Expo for push-notification delivery when notifications are enabled.
- YouTube for embedded video playback; YouTube may receive device and playback information under its own privacy policy.
- Deepgram for generating pronunciation audio from text.
- xAI, YouTube Data API, and Google Cloud for our background content pipeline. It processes public video audio and learning metadata before publication, not your private account content.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the Services, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app advertising.
Retention and Deletion
We keep account and learning data while your account is active. Recent viewing activity is used to reduce repeated videos. Notification delivery logs are generally kept for up to 90 days, and generated pronunciation audio may be cached for up to 180 days.
You can delete your account in app settings. This removes your identity and associated profile, progress, saved vocabulary, reports, notification tokens, and notification records from our active systems. Limited transaction, security, backup, or deidentified analytics records may remain where reasonably required by law or operations.
Your Choices and Rights
You can update learning preferences, disable notifications in the app or device settings, manage subscriptions through the App Store, and request access, correction, deletion, or portability where applicable.
Security and Children
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted transmission and authenticated access, but no system is completely secure. ALYA is not intended for children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes and Contact
We may update this policy and will provide notice of material changes where required. Questions or privacy requests may be sent to amber@alyacompanion.xyz.
